Recently a study was released concerning a common but not well known medical condition. The problem is associated with patients who suffer from multiple conditions which might mask each other. The treatment process for this situation involves dual diagnosis of the patient to help determine what disorders the patient might be suffering from.
One of the more common situations in regard to this problem would be a combination of depression and drug addiction. Both medical conditions could exist in the patient but it would be very common for the patient be only exhibit one condition. In some situations a doctor might only recognize the drug addiction since it could be the most visible problem for the patient. This would not likely cure the patient in the long term since they would still likely suffer from depression once they received their treatment for drug addiction.
What a program of dual diagnosis would involve is a more complete examination of the patient. The diagnosis could help spot emotional and psychiatric problems along with potential developmental disability disorders. This dual condition can exist in all ranges of the population and it is not limited to certain age groups. Outside of addiction related issues patients might also benefit from some development services.
People who suffer from the dual disorder could benefit from treatment services that can be provided by outreach programs that are based in different communities. Patients might not be required to stay at special programs outside of their home communities in all situations.
